I am moved to artistic expression by a life spent studying and teaching Biology and by my cherished experiences in Canada’s outdoors. I have walked, paddled and sailed through Ontario’s north, from Georgian Bay to Lake Nipigon; from Alberta’s Rocky Mountains and BC’s pacific rainforests to our rugged, unspoiled East coast. Through art and writing, I share my appreciation for the colour complements and patterns found in landscapes, in the physiology of all species, and in human innovation and design. I use oils and acrylics as well as mosaics (re-purposed tile, glass…), aiming to excite the senses, sometimes to soothe, always to remind us of our emotional connection with Nature.
I live in King Township with my husband and 3 grown kids (when they perch). I create wherever I find myself with a brush, a camera or a pen. My art is displayed in local venues and can be viewed at upcoming Studio Tours in Newmarket, Aurora and King. For shows and events, and to peruse/purchase my work, please see my website karenLbowenart.ca and my Facebook page.
